Google Expeditions

So… the moon came to Lapel! It seemed so abstract, so far-fetched, so impossible that we would be able to travel to the moon, the 7 wonders of the world, coral reefs, the Grand Canyon and more.  After much preparation and excitement, Google brought their virtual reality cardboard goggles, phones with a 360 camera app, and an android tablet for the teacher.

The day started out pretty early. Google arrived and set up their equipment. The teachers started to arrive soon after and began to learn all about the hardware.

The teachers returned to their classrooms to get the day started with their students. The students were eagerly awaiting their trip. Clock-watching became the norm- especially those who had to wait until the afternoon to make their virtual trip.

It was finally time…

The day ended with lots of excitement, deeper background knowledge, but most importantly a stronger understanding of places that are impossible to visit. Thanks, Google, for allowing Lapel to travel out of this world!
